Location: Houston, TX (Travel Required Based on Division)
Reports To: Crew Foreman / Operations Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary

The Training Helper is an entry-level field position designed to develop future Hydro Operators and Concrete Sawing & Drilling Operators. This role supports production crews while receiving structured, hands-on training in equipment setup, safety procedures, and field operations.This position is physically demanding and requires strong work ethic, mechanical aptitude, and commitment to ATIs zero-incident safety culture.The goal of this role is progression into a skilled Operator position within 6–18 months based on performance.

Primary Responsibilities Crew Support (Hydro Division)

  • Assist with setup of UHP hoses, pumps, water systems, and vacuum systems
  • Support robotic hydro-demolition systems (e.g., Aqua Cutter 710V / Aqua Cutter 750V)
  • Manage water supply and hose organization
  • Assist with tower assembly and breakdown
  • Maintain clean and organized work zones
  • Support slurry containment and cleanup

Crew Support (Sawing & Coring Division)

  • Assist in setup of slab saws, wall saws, and core drills
  • Mark layouts under operator supervision
  • Manage water control and slurry removal
  • Move and stage equipment safely
  • Assist with blade changes and tool handling
  • Support jobsite protection and cleanup

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all OSHA and ATI safety policies
  • Participate in daily Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)
  • Maintain 100% PPE compliance
  • Observe lockout/tagout procedures
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions
  • Support ATIs zero-incident culture

Equipment Care

  • Clean and organize tools and equipment daily
  • Assist with preventative maintenance
  • Monitor hose conditions, fittings, blades, and tooling
  • Help maintain trucks and trailers

Training & Development Path

Training Helpers will be evaluated and trained in:

  • Equipment setup procedures
  • Basic operational controls
  • Safety protocols
  • Reading basic layouts and depth specs
  • Mechanical troubleshooting basics
  • Production expectations

Advancement Path:

  • Helper Operator I
  • Operator I Operator II
  • Operator II Lead Operator

Advancement is performance-based, not time-based.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Valid drivers license required
  • Ability to obtain CDL (Hydro Division path preferred)
  • Ability to lift 75+ lbs
  • Willingness to travel (hydro crews)
  • Strong work ethic and reliability
  • Mechanical aptitude preferred
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as needed

Physical Requirements
